Privacy policy. Last updated September 29, 2026.
Psst is made by Zigao Wang, who is responsible for the data described here.
Psst has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. It doesn't use any analytics or advertising services, and it never sells or shares anything about you.
Your saved places, the places you've already seen in the feed, your filters and settings, and any translations the app makes all stay on your device. If you let Psst use your location, it's used on the device to show places near you and is never sent anywhere.
Downloading stories. The app downloads place and story files from our server. The server doesn't record your IP address: its logs keep only the time, the file requested, and whether it worked, for 14 days. To stop abuse, the server counts requests from each address over the last minute. That count is kept in memory only, never written down, and forgotten within minutes.
Coverage requests. When you look at a city-sized part of the map where Psst has no stories yet, the app sends which area it was: the ID of a hexagon of about 250 square kilometers around the middle of the view. That's all it sends: no coordinates, no identifier, no account. It never sends where you are: while your own location is inside the map view, nothing is sent. Each phone sends a given hexagon at most once a day, and at most 10 a day. We keep only a daily count for each hexagon, to decide where to research next. You can turn this off in Settings, under "Help choose new areas".
Problem reports. If you report a problem with a story, we receive which story it was, the reason you picked, anything you chose to type, and the app version. Reports aren't linked to you. Each phone can report a story once, and send up to 5 reports a day. Please don't include personal information in the message.
Maps and street-level imagery come from Apple Maps, and translation uses Apple's on-device Translation framework. Apple's privacy policy covers those. Links to sources open in your browser, and the sites you visit have their own policies.
Psst doesn't knowingly collect anything from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
Email a@zigao.wang. You can also ask for any problem report you sent to be deleted; include the story and roughly when you sent it, since reports aren't linked to you.
